Be Still in the Work (August 24, 2025)

Summary

In this sermon, we explore Psalm 37 and the importance of waiting on the Lord. In the Old Testament, we see numerous stories of people waiting well and some reap repercussions when they do not. Explore in this lesson how our faith grows through waiting on the Lord and lean into where we can get better at “Trust in the Lord, lean not on our own understanding. In all our ways acknowledge Him, and He will give us the desires of our heart”. Proverbs 3:5-6

Key Scripture

Psalm 37:1-7

Discussion Questions

  1. Waiting leaves room for God’s working
    • Like the story of Abram and Sarai who take matters into their own hands to fulfill God’s promise, where have you struggled to wait on the Lord to work?
    • Andy said, “God can do more in one day than we can do in 6 days”. Have you seen that play out in your life? Where have you seen God work when you thought He was not? Where have you seen your efforts pale in comparison to God’s?
  2. Waiting does not negate you from working
    • Like the “glass in the chili story”, where have you seen God take your efforts and blown you away?
    • Where do you need to be actively working today while you wait?
    • Where do you need to “commit your way to the Lord” as the Psalm says?
  3. Waiting shows trust in God’s timing
    • It was said “God is never early and never late”. Share where you have seen this happen in your life. Fill in the blank “At just the right time ___________________________________”.
    • Is there something in your life where you believe God is early or late?
  4. Waiting grows our dependence on God
    • Where do you need to grow in your dependence on the Lord?
    • Is there an area of your life where you have peace about relying on the Lord?
    • Where in your life do you need to rest for him to do work?
