The Minors – Zephaniah (March 30, 2025)

Icebreaker

Do you have a story like Andy’s electrical work story from today’s story—whether a coworker, spouse, or other family member?

Background

The book of Zephaniah was written early in the reign of King Josiah, around 635–625 BC. Zephaniah delivers a powerful message of judgment and hope centered on three key themes: (1) God reigns supreme over every nation, (2) on the coming day of judgment, the wicked will face punishment while the righteous will be vindicated, and (3) God graciously blesses those who turn from sin and place their trust in Him.

Discussion

What’s something you treasure or value highly in your life? Why is it important to you?

In what ways do you think modern Christians might be ‘too casual’ or ‘too comfortable’ in their relationship with God?

How can we recognize if we’re becoming too confident, casual, or comfortable in our relationship with God?

Andy mentioned that Judah had possession of a great treasure (God’s word) but didn’t realize its value. In what ways might we take God’s word for granted today?

How does the story of King Josiah finding the book of the law challenge us to rediscover the power of Scripture in our own lives?

Reflect on Psalm 119:11 – “I have treasured Your word in my heart so that I may not sin against You.” How can we practically “treasure” God’s word in our daily lives?

The Scripture emphasizes that God treasures us, even when we’re “undesirable.” How does this truth impact your view of yourself and others?

What are some ways we can live with urgency, knowing that “the day of the Lord is near,” without falling into fear or anxiety?

Questions for Personal Reflection

These questions are intended to be read aloud to the group, but not necessarily for group discussion.

What can I do this week to treasure God’s Word in a better way?

Where is an area where I’ve become too comfortable or casual in my faith?

What’s one verse you need to focus and meditate on this week that speaks to this season of your life?
