Is it possible to be a Christian and to worship idols?

Transition: We are in the series Family Mess, today we look at

generational cycles.

DIG IN:

Read Exodus 20:4-6

What is the context of vv. 4-6?

Does this mean idols are “gods” that one positions _______ God?

(above, beyond, over) prepositional locations

What do idols require?

Is idolatry sinful?

What do we learn about God in v. 5?

How far can the consequences of the father’s iniquity go?

FOCUS TODAY:

Truth is that God . . .

Is a Jealous God . . . He’s a Big God . . has already Displayed His Image

Read Genesis 1:27 – Who are you the image of?

Read Colossians 1:15 – Who is Jesus is an Image of?

Transition – We are created in God’s image, and Jesus was the image of the

invisible God. So anytime we set up an idol or an image to worship above/beyond/over

God it is sin. And the sin of Idolatry has far reaching consequences

Truth – Sin of Idolatry can go beyond one generation . . .

A. When one generation Hates and Rejects God, the next generation Suffers.
