Have you ever heard of the term; Kinsman redeemer?

We will discover what that looks like today in our study!

This study will show a type of Christ and God’s redemption.

Read Ruth 1:1-5

What was the situation in Bethlehem?

What do you remember about the definition of Bethlehem?

Do you remember the kind of country Moab was?

A little history: The Moabites were an ancient Semitic civilization that lived in what is today the modern country of Jordan. In Numbers and Deuteronomy God castigates the Moabites for being idolatrous and sexually immoral. He also warns the Israelites in multiple passages against intermarrying with the Moabites or adopting any of their customs.

In verse 4 and 5 what two things are mentioned that are significant to this story?

How do you think Naomi is feeling with the loss of not only her husband, but her two sons?

Naomi = pleasant. Mara = bitter

How deep was Ruth’s commitment to Naomi?

Even in the midst of her grief and sorrow, Naomi provided an example of faith!

Three Things to Glean from Ruth’s Story

  1. Ruth Found Favor in the Eyes of Boaz

Ruth was obedient, and Boaz was observant and responsive, and obedient.

Read Ruth 3:3-4, 8-9

2. Boaz was Motivated by His Love for Ruth

Not only was Boaz responsive, he was redemptive towards Ruth.

3. Boaz Paid the Price to Purchase the Field and Redeem Ruth

A kinsman Redeemer, is a relative who restores or preserves the full community

rights of disadvantaged family members, who, at his own expense, pays off the debts of another.
