Break the Ice:
  • Is there a difference between discerning and judging? Explain your answer.
Transition: 

To judge essentially means “to decide”, let’s look more into this study for clarity.

Bring the Word:
  • Read Matthew 7:1-2

This passage talks about having “a standard”, to “judge, or decide”

Truth is just because your confident, doesn’t mean you are right!

Read Matthew 26:6-10

How were the disciples deciding about this incident with Jesus? What was their standard?

in verse 8 – How could the disciples believe this act was wasteful, where Jesus saw it as noble?

Three Guidelines for Today

A. Examine Yourself First

Read Matthew 7:3-5

According to this passage what must you and I do first?

Read Psalm 139:22-24

Restate this prayer in your own words. Where is the focus?

B. Ask for Eyes to See

Read John 7:21-24

What did Jesus say to these people about judging?

What do you think “judge according to righteous judgement” means?

Read Psalm 119:18.
